I'm on Day Fifteen and I was not a Zombie fan at all. This story has a novel twist to the the "Zombie" genre. The Zombies are the result of a hive-conscious virus that moves exponentially and lightening- fast through the population by infecting other humans by other Zombies biting them. The virus kills the newly bitten and now infected human "host" within a couple of minutes. Whith in another two and a half minutes, the newly dead human host twitches alive as a full fleged Zombie, with no knowlege of friends or family, and starts a rampage to bite any unbitten hosts near them. They feel no pain and only die by having their head (i.e. brains) either blown out by gunshot or otherwise destroyed by an axe, etc., through the head, breaking their necks or severing the arteries in the neck. There is so much more so artfully described by this extraordinary author. The best story is behind the Zombie virus reason for the apocalypse. That story is the comraderi between the main characters; Mr. Howie, a "simple" grocery store manager, Dave, the store clerk who was a very special former special forces soldier and likely a "good" sociopath, then Cookie, Blowers, Lani, Clarence, Nick and Meredith the immune and large German shepard dog that viciously attacks any and all Zombies, savagely ripping out their throats. Meredith considers the humans her "pack."
The nonstop action and the incredible depth of character written into each and every constant or new or fleeting character that author RR Haywood adds is breathtaking.
While I am still not a fan of the "Walking Dead" genre, this series, where each "Day" is simply a next chapter in one big seamless novel, is quite my favorite right now. Anyone reading this series will be incredibly happy with it, certainly, up to at least "Day Fifteen" where I currently have read. Each "Day" so far has been a 5 star read. Some have been even better.
RR Haywood has masterfully shown the good side of people in an epically dire situation and has done an equally superb job of also depicting the unfortunately sick, perverted and selfish side of a humanity on its own.

The Undead Day Two Volume 2 R R Haywood 9781482618051 Books Reviews
Another fun day in the life of Howie. I gave "Day One" 3 stars, but liked this continuation better. Loved the addition of Dave, and hope to see more of him. Some of the action is this one is just outrageous. I would love to see a movie made out of it -- I was imagining some of the fight scenes from the movie The Book of Eli as I was reading.
Have read all the books in this series. Love them all.
Wow! Love the storyline, love Howie's naivety and Dave's hardcore skill, and the realness of it all. Hard to put down.
There is a lot of back and forth, from his town to his parent's village. He's not that bright but he is lucky. The story is standard zombie candy. The protagonist does what he does, fight and evades zombies but he is not very compelling. The plot is action based and comic book simple.
I read the time travel books and like them so I tried these. All good books I look forward to more
i read day one...The Undead Day One (Volume 1)
book two is a continuation of book one. we are on a journey with Howie. He is just starting to grasp what is happening and is slowly adapting to the new world. he gets new goals. Something to aim for...find his family.
Along the way he runs into various people who shape who he is...a hero. in book two he is still working things out, still observing, practicing. Eventually running into Dave.
I enjoyed book one and two, both were really good, i really want to know what happens the next day...on to day three...The Undead Day Three. (Book Three of The Undead Series)
Lot of fun. Quick read. Protagonist is growing and adjusting to his situation with each encounter. I liked the flavor of the British zombie apocalypse, a little different from the the zombie uprising that has already happened in the U.S. with the chief zombie in the Whitehouse.
